The Names Gluten and Dairy Hide Behind

In case I haven't already posted this, here are links to two great resources that provide long lists of "other names" for the two allergens this blog seeks to avoid: gluten and dairy.

Dinner

Not a whole lot to post here, but I did want to let you know that I've gotten a lot of mileage out of the Namaste Pasta meals (in "Say Cheez!", "Taco Pasta" and "Pasta Pisavera". My kids like them all and actually had Taco Pasta with refried beans for dinner tonight.).

I'm pretty sure I've mentioned these before, but in case I haven't, Amy's Rice Crust Pizza with Soy Cheese (scroll down about 3/4 of the page.) is a huge hit around here. And, I can put some frozen spinach in the blender, make it into a powder and serve it on top. My kid's think it's "pizza spice."

For my now 8 month old, I let her teethe on Glutino's sesame breadsticks. Oh and Strawberry Toddler Mum Mum crackers were a huge hit for the entire household. There were also these other crackers, I've forgotten the name. They came in banana and berry flavor. They are shaped like Glutino's breadsticks. They are specifically marketed to babies. I bought them at Central Market. If I remember, I will come back and let you know.

Each week, lunch is divided into 5 sections:

Here's what we've ben doing for it.

Main Course

Sometimes this is a sandwich (Boar's Head meats are all GFCF) but I have also been known to send up crackers and hummus (I buy Glutino crackers and a locally made hummus. I've never found a non GFCF hummus but check yours before buying.) (I will include a post all about checking for allergens momentarily.), BBQ chicken chunks with toothpicks (I hear Sweet Baby Ray's is GFCF. I can't remember the name of the one I get and we're out right now. I think it has the word "trail" in it?)

Whenever I can, I turn dinner leftovers into lunches to save money.

Starchy Side

My oldest is almost 8 and is more conscious of his food being different than other kids' so I try to use this as an opportunity to give him more "regular" stuff. Plain Fritos, plain potato chips and plain tortilla chips are all safe GFCF options that other kids recognize. (But there are also these awesome GFCF chips that I love...let me see if I can find them. Ah, yes. Garden of Eatin's Black Bean Chips. So good.) Also, Veggie Booty is now being sold in lunch-sized 1 oz. bags. Awesome.

Fruity or Vegetabely Side

I usually try to make this an actual fruit or vegetable. But, when in a hurry, natural applesauce cups, Fruitabu products, Annie's Organic fruit snacks, Archer Farms organic fruit strips are all good choices.

Dessert

The kids love Kinnikinnick's chocolate vanilla sandwich cookies. They also like Glutino's strawberry wafer cookies and Cherrybrook Kitchen's mini vanilla grahams and mini chocolate chip cookies.

I also need to tell you that the last three times I've been to Target, there's been no sight of the Archer Farm's almond raisin bars. I am so sad.

Beverage

For drinks, we mostly do 100% juice boxes (I'm glad Capri Sun came out with a 100% juice pouch) but on occasion, I will do boxes of Rice Dream or sometimes the Soy Dream smoothie.

Breakfasts

The kids are now almost 8, 2, and 8 months. They are all GFCF.

Here are some things they're eating for breakfast these days:

Glutino Breakfast Bars in Cranberry, Blueberry and Apple. (They also like the chocolate banana ones but we use those as dessert!)

Gillian's Foods Cinnamon Raisin Rolls

Corn Chex are now GFCF too! They have a list on their website of several gluten-free cereals, many of which I've never seen. If you find them near you, check them out to see if they're also casein free!

I also make traditional bacon, eggs and toast (with GFCF bread. I've been buying Ener-G mostly.). Sometimes I'll swap the toast out for hash browns.
